about

Akin to Wittgenstein’s rabbit–duck illusion, this piece brought by Gérald Bonnegrace, and reworked by Sogol Mirzaei, offers a dual perspective. There’s the leaping beat of a West-African dance and a 6/8 of a Tehrani dance from Iran. This dual listening mode perfectly encapsulates the entire project: rather than trying to outperform each other, the musicians commune to achieve a perfect aesthetic blend that’s dizzyingly authentic.

lyrics

Mamani Keïta :
They awoke early, they awoke early
The ungrudging Mammas said the children awoke early

Aïda Nosrat :
Wash the ground beneath his feet
Hurry for our idol shall soon be here
Announce his arrival in the garden
For the fragrance of spring is nigh
Let our friend come to us
This full moon
For its bright side shines
On us, as an offering
