about

Perfectly blending a West-African beat and Oriental ornamentation, Mamani Keïta uses this Arat Kilo composition to evoke her childhood selling oranges in Bamako. It marvellously illustrates the musical intelligence of a project in which violin, tabla, electric guitar and târ make music side by side without betraying their tonality.

lyrics

Mamani Keïta :
I left Mali
I used to sell oranges
I gave it up to come to France
To get happy holding the mic
Holding the mic
You know your present but not what tomorrow brings
You can’t say what’s gonna happen to you
